I sometimes forget how nervous and afraid I was just when I was starting to realize I was gay. When you’re a teen, the world you know seems so small and insular, and you have no frame of reference for what life could be like otherwise.

I was lucky. I had a strong group of friends in high school, and when I did come out to them it didn’t change anything. But until I did I didn’t know it was going to be okay.

Though I have to admit, I burst out laughing when Dave Holmes admitted who his first crush was. I had to pause the video and give myself a moment to compose myself before continuing to watch.
